Looking for a reservation-based First Nations patient partner willing to share experiences with partners in child and youth mental health  services as a member of the Scientific Advisory Group. The aim of the group is to identify areas of shared concern and prioritize actions to establish a shared vision for improving child and youth mental health in the North. Help this work move forward in a good way that reaches all northern families accessing or requiring child & youth mental health support!

Aim

Knowing the experience for First Nations clients in accessing care in our remote First Nations communities (who sometimes are hours removed from the nearest municipality), we are inviting one First Nations, reservation-based parent to participate and share their unique perspectives in these discussions. We invite this valuable parent perspective to make sure our efforts include your important voice and knowledge on how to best reach other First Nations parents and youth in Northern First Nations communities.

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of collaborate on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will work together with you to formulate solutions and incorporate your advice and recommendations into the decisions to the maximum extent possible.

Eligibility

  • Seeking a Parent who has accessed or attempted to access CYMH services or has been a champion in advocating access to CYMH services in the north
  • Reservation based housing
  • Comfort sharing their experience as it relates to discussion topics
  • If you have a strong interest in this work but have not yet completed a PVN orientation and Volunteer Agreement, are unsure if your experience is a good fit or feel another format of engagement would work better with your availability, please contact Cathy Almost
  • Open to Volunteers from the Northern Region

Logistics

  • Vacancies: 1
  • Monthly teleconference meetings for a duration of one hour. Next meeting likely to be scheduled in the week of May 18, time TBD

Background

The goal of the science advisory group is to discuss how to meaningfully reach out to families in the North for direction on the best ways forward in improving child and youth mental health in our region. Knowing the experience for First Nations clients in accessing care in our remote First Nations communities (who sometimes are hours removed from the nearest municipality),will assist us in moving forward with participant needs and understanding their unique perspectives in these SAG discussions.
