Aim

BC Cancer is committed to providing a safe space for gender and sexual inclusivity. Working group members will • Review patient education materials • Provide education to staff, and • Work on promoting inclusive environments Hearing from patients or family members/caregivers with lived experience is vital in achieving the working group’s goals.

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of collaborate on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will work together with you to formulate solutions and incorporate your advice and recommendations into the decisions to the maximum extent possible.

Eligibility

Open to patient partners across the province who: • Have experience of cancer or cancer care as a patient, family member of caregiver • Are LGBTQIA2S+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and/or Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, Two-Spirit, and other affirmative ways in which people choose to self-identify) • Experience of participating in committees or working groups is preferred If you have a strong interest in this work but have not yet completed a PVN orientation and Volunteer Agreement, are unsure if your experience is a good fit or feel another format of engagement would work better with your availability, please contact Cassy Mitchell.

Logistics

• Number of vacancies: 4 • Date and Time: Monthly meetings the second Tuesday of every month from 1-2pm • Location: Teleconference • Commitment: 7 months to 1 year

Background

The SOGIE working group is comprised of BC Cancer staff and patient partners. We: • Collaborate with programs, departments, and regional cancer centres to ensure physical space is safe and welcoming for gender and sexual inclusivity • Work to ensure that patient education materials are inclusive • Support learning events and develop resources for BC Cancer staff to increase knowledge and skills to support gender and sexual inclusivity • Advocate for resources that support the provision of care that is gender and sexually inclusive • Draft policies/procedures to facilitate gender and sexual inclusiveness • Provide advice and share our best practices with the health care sector, and • Promote BC Cancer as an inclusive space Terms of Reference
