Volunteer Opportunity

Virtual care allows patients to receive care right in the comfort of their own home. Fraser Health is seeking two patient partners to join their Ambulatory Care Coordination Team as they ensure the best virtual health care is delivered to meet the needs of patients in the region.

Lead Organization/Department

Patient Experience, Professional Practice – Fraser Health

Aim

• To support conversations about ambulatory virtual service delivery and improvement
• Patient advisors will share their virtual care experience and help highlight gaps in services and/or delivery

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of involve on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will involve patients in planning and design phases to ensure ideas or concerns are considered and reflected in alternatives and recommendations.

Eligibility

Patient Advisors from Fraser Health Communities who are interested in learning about Fraser Health, building new skills and:
Can speak to a lived experience with virtual care
Able to provide feedback/lens of those who have not received virtual care (e.g. lack of devices, comfort)
Rural/remote perspective is considered an asset, but not required
Experience with committee work

Please note: RSVP follow up will include an informal conversation about the opportunity and determination of the best fit for both patient and health care partners prior to placement

Logistics

• Vacancies: 2
Date/Time: Once a week, Thursdays 3:30-4:30pm
Location: Virtual via Microsoft Teams Video Conferencing
Commitment: 6 months, approximately 1-2 hours per week with informal reviews of resources

Reimbursement

No anticipated reimbursements currently. However, if the there is a change to in person, preapproved expenses related to travel to in person meetings will be reimbursed according to the Fraser Health Travel policy (including mileage each way, parking and public transit).

Background

Ambulatory services are health care services that are can be provided to people that are not in hospital. The ACCC was established in August 2020 to enable virtual ambulatory clinics/services across the Fraser Health in support of Covid-19 response. The ACCC supports the clinical and technical coordination of virtual health services in the ambulatory setting.
