The Kamloops Centralized Surgical Referral Project is supported by the provincial Specialist Services Committee and is designed to help both patients and providers by ensuring that referrals are received in a timely fashion, fully completed, and triaged to the right specialist; all with feedback back to the patient and their GP. Do you have an interest in making the patient journey to the specialist or surgeon more innovative? If so, we would like you to be part of our focus group!

Specialist Services Committee BC - Kamloops Centralized Referral Project

Aim

The aim of the project is to decrease the confusion for patients and providers between the referral from the General Practitioner (GP) to a surgeon. We want to hear from patients that have been through this journey; to give us feedback on how we can improve. The patient partner will be part of a focus group which will review the process, provide feedback, and then review the changes we have made.

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of involve on the spectrum of engagement (www.iap2.org). The promise to you is that the health care partner will work with you to ensure that your ideas and concerns are reflected in recommendations and provide feedback on how your input affected the decision.

Eligibility

It is important to hear from a variety of perspectives. For this reason, preference will be given to patient partners who add to the diversity of the overall focus group. It is also important that patient partners have had experience with a referral to a surgeon in Kamloops from a GP or other source and feel comfortable sharing their story.

Logistics

  • Vacancies: up to 20 (5 to10 per focus group)
  • Format: in-person focus group in Kamloops, and an additional location that supports participation of rural patient partners in the Cariboo/Shuswap areas (location is flexible)
  • Tentative Date: March 2017 for both focus group locations (urban and rural)
  • Focus Group Follow-up: in May, via teleconference for both focus group locations (urban and rural)

Reimbursement

Pre-approved travel expenses will be reimbursed.
