Quality Forum 2020 will welcome over 1,200 participants working across the continuum of care, including 20 patient partners sponsored by the BC Patient Safety & Quality Council. This is your opportunity to join other stakeholders to learn new skills and strategies, discuss opportunities and challenges and network with others who are interested in improving health care in the province. If you are eager to attend Quality Forum and have an interest in health care quality and safety, we encourage you to put your name forward for this opportunity!

Aim

Overall, the four goals of Quality Forum 2020 are to:
  • Ignite action and learning to improve quality of care;
  • Create and strengthen connections and collaboration across all areas of care;
  • Share effective strategies and leading practices to stimulate and sustain improvement; and
  • Demonstrate how every voice matters to achieve high quality care.
The aim of supporting patient partners to attend this conference is to ensure that their unique experience and perspectives are heard and included as fully as possible. To this end, patient partners are encouraged to participate in discussions – seeking out new ideas and sharing their own knowledge, perspectives and experiences and to use their voices for improvement. Patient partners will have the opportunity to attend the Forum as participants and act as champions of patient engagement and the Patient Voices Network throughout the event. Following the Forum, there will be an opportunity to provide feedback for potential areas of improvement for next year’s Forum.

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of involve on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will involve patients in planning and design phases to ensure ideas or concerns are considered and reflected in alternatives and recommendations.

Eligibility

The aim of the selection process is to support a diverse group of patient partners from across the province to attend Quality Forum 2020. This will represent a balance of new and existing PVN members, those that have attended Quality Forum in the past, those that will be attending for the first time, and those who have a range of experience when it comes to participating in patient engagement initiatives. Patient partners should also be comfortable in a large group setting. Upon receiving applications for the 20 available sponsorships  we will review submissions based on the key categories as outlined in the RSVP questions. Please note: Applicants should have previously attended a PVN orientation session and completed the Volunteer Agreement. If you have not attended an orientation session but you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Cassy Mitchell or Ashley Clark directly to see if accommodations may be possible.

Logistics

  • Vacancies: 20
  • Date/time/location: The event will take place from February 25 – 27, 2020, with pre-Forum sessions and Health Talks on February 25 and the main Forum programming on February 26 and 27. Reimbursement

Registration and all travel costs incurred to attend these events will be covered or reimbursed in accordance with the PVN reimbursement policy. As much as possible, we will pre-pay travel expenses directly (e.g., booking flights and accommodation). For those expenses we cannot pay in advance (e.g., transit tickets, meals), we are able to provide expedited payment within a couple of weeks via cheque once an expense reimbursement form is received at our Vancouver office. If required, assistance may be provided upon request to ensure incidental expenses are looked after in advance to reduce or eliminate the need for post-event reimbursement. If you believe this applies to you, please contact Cassy Mitchell or Ashley Clark.

Background

Quality Forum 2020 will be our ninth annual conference, featuring multiple days of presentations and interactive workshops on a variety of topics related to improving quality across the continuum of care. The Forum brings together clinicians, quality improvement leaders, patients, students, researchers, administrators, board members and senior executives from across the province to celebrate successes, address challenges and identify strategies for advancing the quality of health care. The main programming and pre-Forum events present a great opportunity to learn new skills, discuss opportunities and challenges, and network with others who are interested in improving health care in British Columbia. We are expecting to welcome more than 1,200 attendees throughout the Forum events. Plenary sessions will involve approximately 950 attendees and breakout sessions will range from 50-180 people per room. The event is being held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Vancouver. We will work with the hotel and patient partners as best we can to accommodate any accessibility concerns. We will encourage selected patient partners to register as soon as possible to ensure space in their first-choice sessions. To facilitate early registration, we would like to select and inform successful applicants prior to registration launch so that they may register at their earliest convenience as soon as the online form is made available. We will also provide step-by-step instructions on how to navigate the online form, offer technical support and/or answer any questions when the time comes. Where those of us in the room may have debated policy or wording, patient voices made sure patients were top of mind. And as a result, significant improvements were made to simplify something that was otherwise complex. Patient voices at the table bring us back to reality in terms of what we are trying to achieve.
