BC Patient Safety & Quality Council is sponsoring three patient partners to attend the Providence Health Care Geriatric Services Conference

Aim

Providence Health Care is hosting its 16th Annual Geriatric Services Conference. The theme this year is to connect, collaborate and create. Presentations and workshops are being led by respected researchers and clinicians and will include dialogue on current and emerging best practices, culture of care transformation, and key ethical and legal issues affecting older adults.

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of inform on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that you will be provided with balanced and objective information to assist in understanding alternatives and solutions.

Eligibility

  • Selected patient partners will need to be members of Patient Voices Network. If you have a strong interest in this work but have not yet completed a PVN orientation and Volunteer Agreement, please contact Cassy Mitchell
  • Participants will be asked to demonstrate an interest in geriatric health care services
  • Consideration will be given to how the selected patient partners might use or enhance the sharing of knowledge gained going forward
  • Consideration will be given to diversity, so that patient partners reflect the population of our province
  • Open to patient partners in the Lower Mainland & Fraser Valley

  • One time commitment; in person

Background

The conference aims to: -Explore key ethical and legal issues for seniors including health care consent, substitute decision making, and right to live at risk - Discuss emerging research that incorporates patients and families as partners in learning - Discuss knowledge translation strategies to support emerging best practices for health promotion across the continuum of seniors’ care - Discuss culture change initiatives and innovative change leadership in seniors’ care programs - Identify and discuss approaches to interdisciplinary team collaboration within a person-centred culture of care - Recognize the caregiver experience through the practice of mindfulness - Celebrate positive innovations, research and trends in seniors’ care
