A global novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has rapidly spread around the globe, and health authorities have been struggling to slow the spread of infection to protect people and healthcare resources.

The Montreal Behavioural Medicine Centre (www.mbmc-cmcm.ca), along with international team of over 100 researchers from more than 20 countries around the world, are trying to assess public perceptions and responses to the various measures put in place to prevent or reduce the spread of COVID-19. The question I like to ask health care employees is ‘Who is this for?’ and ‘Do we have the right people at the table?’ As a health care employee, I see how easy it is to fall into doing for, rather than doing with patients. The voices of the patient, family and caregiver are essential to ensure the patient is central to the direction and focus of the work being done.
