Categories: Patient Voice Mail

Many organizations are creating resources and tools to support patient engagement – we’ve collected five examples that we think are good engagement reads made in BC, nationally and internationally.

NOTE: This is not an exhaustive list, nor is it an endorsement of specific resources or opinions. Please continue to get your most up-to-date COVID-19 information at

  1. Working together – Virtually
BC Patient Safety & Quality Council and PVN – BC
A number of our health care and patient partners have asked for a simple one-pager that provides recommendations about transitioning working together from an in-person to a virtual environment. These guidelines include some helpful questions and encouragement to talk together about what works best for you.

  1. Who’s Zoomin’ Who
Northern Health-Physician Quality Improvement – BCPSQC & PVN

Since doctors in BC transitioned to using virtual care, there has been a need to support patients to use Zoom, a videoconferencing platform. We conducted a learning session on the basics of using Zoom with PVN members, as part of a pilot program with our partners from Northern Health. We have uploaded a condensed version of this session on our website and have included two handy documents to help your understanding of Zoom.
  1. National Indigenous History Month
    Government of Canada – Canada
In June, we celebrate National Indigenous History Month to honour the history, heritage and diversity of Indigenous Peoples in Canada.
  1. History of Canadian Pride
    Queer Events – Canada

Queer Events is an independent organization dedicated to working towards a strong, welcoming & accessible LGBT2Q+ community. They provide a history of the pride movement on their site.
  1. Spirit Magazine
First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) – BC
FNHA produces a quarterly publication focused on sharing BC First Nations’ inspirational journies of health through wellness. The magazine shares success stories and, new ideas and offers helpful tools and tips for staying well.

Patient and family partners should not be a check box on research proposals! They need to be involved right from the start. I know patient and family partners are doing their part by providing their knowledge to researchers from their lived experience.  It’s a win-win for us to work together through PVN to make sure our input drives improvements.
